ヴァニラ画廊では、昭和時代のSM雑誌において、数多くの緊縛と刺青を纏った女性像を発表した小妻容子／小妻要の個展を開催いたします。
戦後から1960年代にかけて、日本国内ではあらゆるフェティシズムを特集した雑誌が多数流通し、やがてそれらはSM雑誌文化の礎となりました。1970～80年代には風俗誌全体が隆盛を極め、SM雑誌も空前のブームを迎え、多くの専門誌が創刊されます。
それらの誌面を華やかに彩ったのが、個性豊かな作家たちが独創性を競い合い、それぞれの世界観を表現した、数多くのフェティッシュなイラストレーションでした。斬新かつ完成度の高い作品群は、SMマニアにとどまらず、現在では世界中のアートファンからも高い評価を受けています。
1939年、新潟県に生まれた小妻は、日本画家である叔父のもとで絵の手ほどきを受けたのち上京し、本格的に画業を開始。SM雑誌の草分け的存在である「奇譚クラブ」への投稿を機に、点描による緊縛画・責め絵を描きはじめ、やがて日本画の技法をも取り入れた独自の作品世界を確立していきました。のちに「小説SMセレクト」「SMキング」「SM秘小説」など数多くの専門誌にて、緊縛や刺青を象徴とする作品を発表し、責め絵には「小妻容子」、刺青画や風俗画には「小妻要」の名を使い分け、凄惨な情景のなかにも官能と詩情が交差する、女性の内面性を映し出す抒情的な作品を描き続けました。
本展では、キャリア初期のペン画から、迫真の責め絵、絹本に描かれた緊縛画、そして雑誌の表紙を飾った刺青美人画など、氏が遺した多彩な作品をご紹介いたします。また、エディシオン・トレヴィルより刊行予定の最新画集も、本展にて先行販売いたします。小妻容子／要が作品に込めた、身体の痛みとともにある美、そして日本的な静けさと情感――緊縛と刺青に宿る美の極致を、ぜひご高覧ください。

Vanilla Gallery is proud to announce a solo exhibition of Yoko/Kaname Ozuma who published numerous images of women in kinbaku (bondage) and tattoos in BDSM magazines during the Showa period.
From the post-war period through to the 1960s, numerous magazines
featuring fetishism of all kinds circulated in Japan, and they
eventually became the cornerstone of BDSM magazine culture. In the
1970s and 1980s, adult entertainment magazines as a whole
flourished, and BDSM magazines enjoyed an unprecedented boom, with
many specialized magazines being launched.
What gorgeously decorated the pages of those magazines were
numerous fetish illustrations in which artists with rich
personalities competed with each other for originality and
expressed their own views of the world. Their innovative and
high-quality finished works are highly appreciated not only by
BDSM enthusiasts, but also by art fans around the world today.
Ozuma was born in Niigata Prefecture in 1939. She learned to paint from his uncle, a Japanese-style painter, before moving to Tokyo to begin her painting career. He began to draw kinbaku and torture imagery using pointillism technique when she contributed her works to "Kitan Club," a pioneering BDSM magazine, and eventually established her own unique world of work by incorporating Japanese painting techniques as well. He later published his works symbolizing shibari and tattoos in many magazines such as "SM Select" ,"SM King" and "SM Secret Novel." He used the name "Yoko Ozuma" for his torture art and "Kaname Ozuma" for his tattoos and genre paintings, and continued to paint lyrical works reflecting the inner nature of women, where sensuality and poetic sentiment cross in the midst of gruesome scenes.
This exhibition presents a wide variety of his works, including pen drawings from the early stage of his career, true-to-life torture paintings, kinbaku paintings on silk, and painted portraits of beautiful, tattooed women on the covers of magazines. The latest art book to be published by Editions Treville will also be on sale at the exhibition. 1939年新潟県柏崎生まれ。別名は小妻要。幼少の頃から叔父の日本画家・坂井草子（さかいそうし）から日本画の手ほどきを受ける。18歳で上京し、印刷会社の仕事に従事しながら画商のもとで修業。
1965年に「奇譚クラブ」の懸賞にて入選。その後1970年出版界に入り、新聞、雑誌等の仕事を手掛ける。「SMキング」「SM秘小説」などの表紙絵や挿絵を担当する。
1986年東京・銀座のロイヤルサロンギンザにて初個展を行い、以後、存命中は個展・グループ展を毎年開催していた。元日本出版美術家連盟副会長。2011年死去。享年72歳。
Born in Kashiwazaki, Niigata Prefecture in 1939. He also used the
name of Kaname Ozuma. He learned Japanese-style painting from his
uncle Soushi Sakai, a Japanese-style painter, from his childhood.
Ozuma came to Tokyo at the age of 18, and studied under an art
dealer while working at a printing company In 1965, he won a prize
in a magazine “Kitan Club”. He then moved to the publishing
industry in 1970 to work with newspapers and magazines, etc. He
provided cover and insert illustrations to “SM King” and “SM
Secrete Novel”, etc.
Ozuma held his first solo exhibition at Royal Salon Ginza, Tokyo
in 1986, and thereafter held solo/group exhibitions every year in
his lifetime. He was a former Vice President of the Japan
Publication Artist League. Ozuma died in 2011 at the age of 72.
